MAYEM: Claiming that both Konkani and Marathi go hand-in-hand in Goa, Deputy Speaker Anant Shet said it is imperative to use both these languages in future.
He also called upon the people to protect and preserve the State language to protect Goa and Goans.
Shet was addressing during the inaugural ceremony of 136th birth anniversary celebrations of Shenai Goibab, organised by Divchal Konkani Academy (DKA) in association with Goa Konkani Academy at the Hirabai Zantye memorial hall.
Others present at the function were Deputy Speaker Anant Shet, DKA President Vinayak Govekar, Working President Dr Shekhar Salkar and BMC Chairperson Anisha Vernekar.
President of GKA Pundalik Nayak expressed his desire to install a statue of renowned Konkani writer late Shenai Goibab at Bicholim, to create awareness about the legend in Konkani literature.
On the occasion, Shantaram Varde Walaulikar announced financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh for the welfare of Konkani language on behalf of Shenai Goibab Pratishthan.
Earlier, Dr Shekhar Salkar expressed his willingness to celebrate the anniversary of Shenai Goibab with zeal and enthusiasm every year.
