MARGAO: ‘Krishi Vigyan Kendra’ administrative Building and trainees hostel situated at the Agriculture Department near Rajendra Prasad Stadium, Margao was inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Babu Kavlekar and E-commissioned by the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Thursday.
The KVK will play pivotal role in the facilitation of demonstration and the practical cultivation of new types of grains and seeds to check on the behaviour and success rate of the new introduction and will then be approved and sent to the suitable areas in Goa. Provision of hostel facility for the farmers and agriculturists is made available in kendra for trainers.
“Farmers and agriculturists have to come ahead and become atmanirbhar to make sure Goa becomes self sufficient in agriculture produce” said Chief Minister. “I have given a target to each agriculture officials to get 10 or 20 agriculturists and farmers from each of the 192 panchayats of Goa, as agriculture, horticulture will become a integrated business” he said.
Commenting on youths interest in farming Sawant also said that the youth does not show interest in agriculture and farming as they cant see secure income. “If youth see net income of Rs 3 and half lakh, they will definitely come to agriculture” said CM.
Agriculture Minister Babu Kavlekar said that his department is working towards making green revolution true in Goa. “Farmers taking seeds for agriculture has doubled. Land under cultivation has increased immensely. This kendra will boost the agriculture in Goa” said Kavlekar.
