PANJIM: Karnataka on Monday filed its say before the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal stating that no work is being undertaken at Kalasa nallah at Kankumbi as alleged by Goa.
Goa government last month had filed an interlocutory application before the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal bringing to its notice violations committed by Karnataka by way of resuming work at the Kalasa nallah.
Karnataka had blocked the Mhadei tributary by resuming the nallah work, despite submissions before the Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal and the Supreme Court not to resume work.
Meanwhile, the final hearing in the main petition by Karnataka seeking diversion of 56 tmc of water from Mhadei basin to Malaprabha basin, will resume on Tuesday.
Goa’s case is essentially the challenge to the proposed 12 projects in the Western Ghats, which Karnataka proposes to build on River Mhadei, and thereafter, the further proposal for the trans-basin diversion of water into the Malaprabha reservoir from the river. Goa has filed its written arguments running into three volumes of more than 540 pages.
