Approving Karnataka’s Detailed Project Report is a betrayal of the Rajya Sabha and people of Goa, Rajya Sabha Member, Luizinho Faleiro has said. He added that the government of India had given an assurance in the House of Elders that no action would be taken on Mhadei till 20 August 2023 when he had asked for protecting the interest of Goa on Mhadei. The Ecology, environment and forests are being taken away by the government even as 60% of Goa depends on Mhadei which is the lifeline of Goa, he said.
The Supreme Court heard Goa’s interlocutory application on the Mhadei issue on February 13. The petition sought to stop Karnataka from undertaking construction activity based on the detailed project report approved by the Centre. The Supreme Court on Monday fixed the final hearing in the case for July 2023.
