PANJIM: Hailing the Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s statement on an amicable solution for Mhadei water crisis, Karnataka has said it is ready to take first step in this direction.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in a letter to Goa CM has also requested co-operation of Goa in the matter.
“Hon’ble chairman of tribunal Justice I M Panchal and Justice Vinay Kumar and Justice P.S Narayana have verbally advised during the hearing that the Chief Ministers of the State of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra may explore the possibility of arriving at a amicable solution to the pending water disputes by talks and negotiations among themselves. The Honorable judges have also clarified, as informed, that the Chief Ministers of three states may work out an amicable solution with or without the mediation of third party,” says Siddaramaiah in the letter.
He further says that the counsels of all three states – Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra have also welcomed the suggestion and thanked the judges.
“The three states, are therefore, committed to the talks and negotiations in exploring an amicable solution to the pending water disputes without prejudice to their respective case before the tribunal on merits,” he says.
“In view of this, on behalf of the riparian state of Karnataka it would be my pleasure to host the first round of talks. I sincerely hope you would, in the true spirit of co-operation and collaboration, agree to your state participating in the talks,” Siddaramaiah adds.
