Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal has begun hearing the issue of sharing of Mhadei river waters, and Nadkarni, who was Advocate General of Goa before being appointed as the Additional Solicitor-General of India in May 2016, is representing Goa before the tribunal after being permitted by the Centre.
Reacting to this Nadkarni said, “I agreed to appear only for the sake of Goa and to protect Goa’s lifeline after the written permission of the government of India was communicated to me.”
Joshi has written to Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad saying that as Nadkarni is Add Solicitor General of India, his appearance before the tribunal is likely to cause gross injustice to Karnataka.
In his letter to Ravishankar Prasad, which was released to the media, Joshi said it was morally and ethically wrong for Nadkarni to represent Goa before the tribunal.
“In view of this, I request you to get a direction issued to the Additional Solicitor General of India not to represent the State of Goa which will be prejudicial to the State of Karnataka. If he decides to continue to represent Goa, then direct him to resign from the post of Solicitor General in the interest of justice, equity and good conscience and also to protect the interests of the State of Karnataka in the Mhadei Inter-State River Dispute for which farmers and people of the region are agitating,” Joshi has written.
