PONDA: Against the backdrop of the burglary cases at various Marcel shops on June 4, Ponda Police have solved the case, wherein the accused was arrested and all stolen goods were recovered.
The accused named Halyal, native of Karwar, Karnataka who had in his possession 24 mobiles and mobile accessories as well as one camera and one two-wheeler. All of the stolen items amount to Rs 2 lakh. In addition, the police also recovered a stolen raincoat and a pair of rain boots.
Speaking to the media, the police informed that the accused has been remanded to five days police custody. They also suspect the involvement of a gang and further investigations are underway.
During the course of investigation, a team led Superintendent of Police (SP) South Goa Arvind Gawas, DySP Nelson Albuquerque and PI Gaude, PSI Ajit Umarye, PSI Vibhinav Shirodkar, HC Kedarnath Jalmi, Chetan Gaude, along with police constables caught the accused and recovered the stolen goods. During the course of investigation, the accused confessed that he had committed the crime at Marcel. The accused also confessed that he had stolen a scooter from Old Goa and had also committed theft in Old Goa and in the jurisdiction of the Porvorim Police Station.
It may be recalled that the shops located at Deulwada, Marcel, were burgled of which, goods from four shops were stolen.
