CALANGUTE: A tourist from Karnataka drowned at Baga beach, on Sunday.
According to Drishti Marine, the deceased was part of a group of 13 tourists from Karnataka who were enjoying themselves on the beach.
While seven of them remained on the shore, six of the tourists ventured further into the sea and were caught in a swift and turbulent current, rendering them distressed and unable to swim back to shore.
Lifeguards, who were alerted by the sudden commotion at the spot, rushed to secure the individuals with a surfboard, rescue tube and jetski.
Five were successfully brought to the shore, but one was reported still missing. Following a thorough search, the individual was located in a comatose condition further away from the scene of the incident. He was brought back and though CPR was administered to his comatose body, lifeguards were unable to revive him. He was then taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him brought dead.
Four children who had gone missing were also reunited with their families at Baga and Calangute beaches over the weekend, Drishti said.
