PANJIM: The Kadamba bus terminus, the premier public transport hub of the capital ~Panjim, gives commuters a nauseating welcome due to indiscriminate dumping of garbage in and around it.
Authorities say they are helpless as the piles of garbage accumulate along the entrance of the bus stand everyday.
KTC claims that unknown people and commercial establishments continue to dump huge quantity of garbage in the vacant lands in and around the bus stand for long, despite warnings been put up.
One of the commuter claimed that the vendors along the bus stand too dump waste, which remain uncleared. Cesspools formed thereby affect the environment at the bus stand and commuters complain of foul odour emanating from the garbage.
“Garbage has been a major nuisance at the bus stand and its adjoining areas. It’s been observed that every morning heaps of garbage is dumped at the bus stand,” KTC Managing Director Derrick Netto said. Workers are been deployed to clean the area on daily basis, he informed.
“But still it is not possible to clean as the area is huge and the quantity of garbage is massive,” Netto added.
KTC has now roped in the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) to work out a solution to the garbage menace and also to apprehend those involved in dumping the waste by deploying workers to keep a vigil.
