VASCO: Around 300 yellow and black taxi operators at the Dabolim airport on Friday joined a flash strike called in the State to protest the government’s refusal to scrap the GoaMiles app-based taxi services.
Goa Tourism assistant manager Anil Dalal said,
“twenty Kadamba buses and 12 buses of the tourism department were deployed at the airport to drop and pick up passengers. The tourists were not affected too much by the sudden strike, as the government had a contingency plan ready prior to the strike,” said Dalal.
Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) President Savio Messias said the KTC did a wonderful alternate arrangements since Friday morning for the convenience of the tourists. Both the KTC and Tourism department deployed a fleet of buses from North as well as South Goa.
“In morning around 300 passengers were taken by Kadamba buses. GoaMiles cabs were also available for the passengers. Therefore, there was no impact or inconvenience to the passengers due to sudden strike,” he said.
When asked whether he backed the Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant, on his refusal to scarp GoaMiles app-based taxi service, Messias replied in the positive. “Goa needs an app-based taxi service,” he said.
