PANJIM: Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) temporarily suspended buses plying on the Mumbai and Shirdi route in view of tension in Mumbai and Ahmadnagar.
KTC chairman Carlos Almeida told Herald that buses plying on Mumbai route were suspended on Tuesday evening following the ‘bandh’ called by a Dalit group.
He said that the bus that had left on Tuesday evening to Shirdi will be stopped near Pune as there was also some tension in Ahmadnagar. He said the return bus from Shirdi had to bypass Ahmadnagar or take another route in order to avoid any incident. Almeida said that a further call over the routes will be taken on Wednesday based on the situation.
Protesters have blocked roads in several areas in Mumbai and also local train services after the death of a person at an event organised to mark the 200th anniversary of the Bhima Koregaon battle in Pune.
