KTC to discontinue pass concession from July 1

MARGAO: Starting from July, the pass concession scheme of Kadamba Bus Transport, originally implemented during the tenure of late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for government, autonomous body, and corporation employees, will be discontinued.

The reason cited for discontinuing the pass concession scheme is that pass holders are already receiving a transport allowance, resulting in a perceived double benefit.

The discontinuation of the scheme will mean that hundreds of employees working in government departments, autonomous bodies, and corporations will have to bear the cost of transportation to their workplaces.

MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, Chairman of the Kadamba Transport Corporation, told O Heraldo that the matter would be discussed with the Chief Minister and Transport Minister to find alternative ways to provide benefits to government employees who receive lower transport allowances as part of their salaries.

On June 11, KTC Managing Director Derrick Pereira Neto issued a circular announcing the discontinuation of pass concessions for employees of state and central government departments, autonomous bodies, corporations, and aided institutions.

In response to the issue, Chairman Ulhas Tuenkar informed that if the decision is taken to continue with the pass scheme, full ticket fare will be required.

“It has come to our attention that many employees of autonomous bodies, corporations, and aided institutions receive lower transport allowances in their salaries. Therefore, we will discuss this matter with the Chief Minister and Transport Minister to explore potential solutions,” he stated.

“No renewals will be processed after July 1; however, pass holders may continue using their issued passes until their validity expires,” he informed.
