MARGAO: Curtorim Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Monday said that amidst rising COVID-19 cases in State, the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited is completely ignoring the social distancing norm in their buses.

He said that the daily commuters, who travel by shuttle buses to major towns and by special run fleet for the government staff working in the Secretariat at Porvorim and other government offices in Panjim, have no chance left to follow the social distancing norm.

“It is noticed that since September 11, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guideline on the SOPs (standard operating procedures) are not followed by KTCL buses/shuttle-special buses ferrying staff to the Secretariat and various parts of State. And there is a fear in the mind of the commuters that they may come in contact with coronavirus affected people as they are sitting close to each other. This would lead to further spike in the cases,” warned Reginaldo.

“The Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji in his social media message has asked the people to follow social distancing. Remember ‘dogaj ki doori’, ‘avoid crowded spaces’ and ‘improve your immunity’,” he said.

“The KTCL officials at Margao and Panjim are harassing the daily commuters by not adhering to the practise of social distancing norm and crowding the buses with more passengers which is in total disregard to the norm of avoiding crowded places,” said Reginaldo.
