PANJIM, JULY 27
It will be Ganesh Chaturthi bonanza for the commuters as Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) will procure 20 additional buses from Rs 3.75 crore approved by State Government.
KTCL Chairman Dipak Dhavlikar said that the process has started to take over this lot of buses, which was pending in the depot.
“The State finance department has approved Rs 3.75 crores for procuring these buses. The amount is likely to be sanctioned in the next ten days,” Dhavlikar told Herald.
KTCL had obtained 20 Kadamba buses under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), this year. But as the Centre refused to pay the said amount, the buses were lying idle at the private depots.
“We will make sure that all these buses run along the State routes before Chaturthi,” he said.
Under JNNURM, the KTCL had rejuvenated its fleet with the induction of 30 buses, which started plying along the State routes last year.
These new ones are low floor buses with additional 10 seats (31-seater) and will provide shuttle services to the travellers. The low floor buses will facilitate the aged people and partially disabled to board them without any hassles. These buses will have special seating arrangements for students.
