The Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) management has decided to redress grievance of its workers, who resorted to fresh protest in Margao against extra working hours.
KTCL chairman Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco told Herald that the management is trying their best to find out the solution for the same.
“They have refused to work for extra hours but in-order to increase the revenue the workers will have to give their extra time. We will come out with a solution that will benefit both workers and the corporation,” Lourenco said.
“At the time of sixth pay implementation, the workers had agreed to put in extra work, thus helping the corporation to raise its revenue by 10 per cent,” he added.
Meanwhile, KTCL managing director Venancio Furtado had cleared that he has not received any such demand from the workers.
“I had asked them to submit their demand in writing to us but till date no one has approached me. Will wait till they come out with their demands in writing,” he said.
KTCL Margao staff, on Monday had closed down the operation of its inter-city transport for almost three hours agitating against the extra working hours they were forced to do after the implementation of sixth pay commission.
KTCL Allied Workers and Employees Union President Joaquim Fernandes had earlier told the management that the employees have agreed to put in extra work to raise their revenues which is required to make up for the financial liability arising out of implementation of sixth pay commission.
“The drivers and conductors are ready to work extra which will raise the revenue by 10 per cent. They can be paid overtime expenses,” Fernandes had said.
The KTCL management on May 2 signed the agreement to pay wages to its workers as per sixth pay commission.
The implementation of sixth pay commission for KTCL staff has translated into additional liability of Rs 43 crore and monthly liability of Rs 1.3 crore for the corporation.
