PANJIM: In a bid to make the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) a profitable unit and to improve the public transport system, the Goa government has decided to take over all private buses operating across various routes in the State and bring them under the ambit of KTCL.

Speaking to mediapersons on Friday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that post Budget Session; one will not see KTCL running under losses as the government has proposed to task the Corporation to run private buses.

He said that the government aims to take private buses, operating on various routes in Goa on board through the KTCL to improve the transport system in the State.

“We also intend to take taxis and also some two-wheeler services like pilots on board through the government Corporation. The aim is to make entire public transport system better,” he said. There are around 1,500 private buses operating on various routes.

Way back in 2012, then Manohar Parrikar-led government had proposed a similar project, however, it did not materialised in view of opposition from the private bus operators.
