VASCO: The Verna police on Thursday arrested a labour contractor from Assam for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at Kesarval, Verna.
According to the Verna Police, the incident occurred on February 12 when the accused identified as Joyram Kalita, 42, a native of Assam and currently residing at Upasnagar, Sancoale forcibly sexually assaulted the woman and further gave her dire consequences if she informed anyone about the incident.
The victim is a labourer and was staying in a rented room provided by the labour contractor at Kesarval, Verna. On February 12, the accused entered in the rented room of the victim when she was alone and had forcible sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
Following a complaint by the woman, the police immediately arrested the accused. A case has been registered against Joyram Kalita under sections 376 and 506 (ii) of the IPC. PSI Vibha Volvoikar is conducting investigation under the guidance of Verna PI Melson Colaco and overall guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
