Addressing media persons on decisions taken by the cabinet, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said approval has been granted to make necessary amendments to the Factories and Boilers Act and Labour Act to facilitate ease of doing business. He said that labour laws have been amended in consultation with the Central government, for ease of doing business to attract investments in India and Goa. Clarifying on the decision to employ workers in 12-hour shifts a day and up to 60 hours a week till July 31, Sawant said the actual duty hours are eight hours only, while for the balance four hours, the industries will have to make compulsory overtime payment. “Also, companies will have to provide pick and drop service,” he added.
Further, the Cabinet granted approval for appointment of two physiotherapists and two consultant radiologists at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC). The Cabinet also approved creation of 35 posts in Directorate of Accounts.
