PANJIM: Labour and Employment Minister Babush Monserrate on Thursday asked striking workers to apologise and resume work as the management has not taken any decision to retrench them.
The workers from a company situated in the Verna industrial estate are on strike for the last few days demanding their regularisation in service. They feared that the management will retrench them and replace them by bringing workers from other States.

Monserrate held a meeting with the representatives of the workers and the management in a bid to resolve the ongoing strike. After discussing both the parties, he said that the striking workers were apprehensive that their services would be terminated after the end of their three-year contract, which ends next month.
Monserrate said that the management has assured him that the company has no plans to retrench the striking workers and that it would extend their contract by one-year. Of the 130 workers who had resorted to strike, 14 have resumed duties, he said.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties have extended their support to the striking workers. They stated that the government has fooled youth in the name of employment and compelling them to come on streets.
