VASCO: In a shocking incident, Mormugao Police on Sunday arrested a 27-year-old labourer from Mormugao on charges of raping a minor girl for the last several months.
According to Mormugao Police, the victim’s mother lodged a complaint on Sunday evening stating that the accused wrongfully confined her daughter at his residence at Mormugao.
The victim’s mother further stated that the accused forcefully had sexual intercourse with the girl several times over a period of last three months, due to which the minor girl is reported three months pregnant.
Acting on the complaint, the Mormugao Police registered the complaint and arrested the accused under Sections 342, 376 IPC, Section 8 (2) of Goa Children Act and Sections 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act.
Police further informed that Mormugao Police Sub Inspector Shailesh Narvekar recorded the statements of the mother and the victim girl in the presence of an NGO.
Sources told Herald that the accused, who was staying alone in his house, is an unskilled labourer and was working at Bogmalo.
Sources further informed that the victim girl was seen at the residence of the accused for some time.
Sources also told Herald that the accused has offered to marry the girl.
