VASCO: An activist group ‘Goa First’ has alleged that labourers are housed in a ship at Western India Shipyard Ltd (WISL).
In a complaint to the Harbor Police and Deputy Collector, Goa First has alleged that a labour contractor engaged has housed labourers inside M V Quin vessel which was brought for repair work at WISL.
The NGO has alleged that the contractor has brought employees from Gujarat and other parts of India and has illegally housed them in the vessel.
“The contractor has been disposing lot of engine oil and other lubricating liquids inside the sea water from the vessel and also responsible for dumping of lot of hazardous waste on the berth and inside the water which have been causing of water pollution and Industrial pollution,” Goa First alleged.
“We demand an immediate action on MPT as well as the labour contractor engaged in this work at the port as it is the most sensitive area and such loopholes in security can be invitation to terror related activity,” Goa First wrote.
“Offload all these employees with immediate effect and register FIR against the accused,” Goa First demanded.
