Lack of asphalt road in Nagzar Curti causes suffering as locals and citizen clash over ownership

PONDA: The road at Nagzar Curti has been in a deplorable state with craters and potholes, as it has not been tarred for many years. Despite efforts to obtain government approval for asphalting, progress has been halted due to objections from one local resident, leading to frustrations among the community.

Curti ZP Member, Priya Chari, along with concerned locals, addressed the press, highlighting the dire condition of the road that has been completely washed away.

According to Priya Chari, the citizen in question claims ownership of the property that provides access to the road. However, he lacks the necessary documents to prove his ownership. The situation has affected around 40 houses and flats in the area, as the access road remains in disrepair, causing hardships for the residents. Despite obtaining government approval for asphalting, the objection from the citizen has kept the work pending for several years, leading to disruptions in essential services like gas supply, emergency vehicles, and even the local milkman’s visits.

ZP Priya Chari urged local MLA and Minister Ravi Naik to intervene and find a solution to the impasse.

Herald contacted the individual objecting to the asphalting of the road to understand his stance. He claimed to be a tenant of the property and asserted that he has been fighting for justice since 2001. According to him, the matter of access road property is currently subjudice in court, adding complexity to the issue.
