The acquisition of the land at Cuncolim has been completed and the awards for the same will be completed by February, paving way for handing over the land to the Human Resource Development department.
The award for the acquired land, admeasuring 4.57 lakh square meters, is to the tune of Rs 39 crore and will be soon awarded to the owners of the lands.
Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik has expressed happiness over the NIT project and said, “The NIT is a project, which will pump in life and money into the slowdown-hit markets of Cuncolim, which was evident when several traders and professionals like doctors, engineers and educationists extended their support to me on this issue.”
He added, “If not Cuncolim, there was no possibility for the NIT to come up anywhere in Goa; the topographic location of Cuncolim is equidistant to almost all modes of transport. Also, after the land was acquired, officials of NIT and the Goa Technical Education department have visited and inspected the site and finalised the infrastructure for the allotted land.”
It may be recalled that the NIT was planned on an area of 12 lakh sq mts, which was flatly rejected by Cuncolkars and also former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. After negotiation, the area was brought down to 4.57 lakh sq mts.
