MAPUSA: A team of officials from the Bardez Mamlatdar’s office stopped the filling of mud in a low-lying field at Gausawaddo, Mapusa, on Monday.
An excavator involved in the work was seized by the officials and handed over to the Mapusa police.
The inspection was carried out on the basis of a complaint registered with the Mamlatdar’s office regarding the filling of an agricultural field along the highway and subsequently officials Shailesh Kothawale, Aparna Garudi and Satish Dhuri visited the spot at around 3.46 pm.
The officials noticed that the controversial site was covered with cloth while a JCB was filling and flattening the low-lying land for construction.
Mamlatdar Pravin Gawas issued directions to Mapusa PI Paresh Naik and also wrote to the Administrator of Comunidades to initiate action against the violator.
It is reportedly learnt that the Mapusa Municipal Council Chief Officer had directed the Engineering Department to submit reports on land filling activities, here, but it has not been done till date.
Sources say that there is rampant land filling activity going on all along the highway and authorities have turned a Nelson’s eye to the illegalities.
