Land fraud case: Margao court grants anticipatory bail to 2 accused, denies 1

MARGAO: District and Sessions Judge in Margao on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to two accused while rejecting the bail application of a third accused in a high-profile land grabbing case registered by Margao Police. The court rejected Rajdeep Kundiakar’s anticipatory bail, while granting anticipatory bail to Mohammed Ismail Lalannawar, a resident of Suduband Colmorod Margao, and Ilyas Abdul Dhalayat of Motidongor, Margao.

The court ordered the release of the two accused on a bail bond of Rs. 20,000, along with one surety of the same amount. Bail conditions were also imposed by the court. These accused, along with Rajdeep Kundaikar, had filed an anticipatory bail application before the court. The court issued notices to Margao Police, the public prosecutor, and the defense advocate, heard the arguments, and made the aforementioned decisions. Margao Police had opposed their anticipatory bail application, citing their importance to the ongoing investigation.

Margao Police have registered an offense against five individuals, including a city advocate and a notary, in relation to alleged document forgery and cheating of a resident of Colmorod, Navelim.

According to the complaint lodged by Moosa Sale Mohammed, between July 2019 and June 2020, Salim Ibrahim Doddamani, along with a city advocate Ramesh Haldankar, who is also a notary, allegedly took the original property papers and personal identity documents of the complainant and his wife under the pretext of finding customers for two plots. The accused then returned coloured photocopies of the documents to the complainant but misappropriated the originals.

They used the originals to prepare a forged power of attorney in Rajdeep Kundiakar’s name and subsequently sold the plot to Mohammed Ismail Lalannawar and Ilyas Abdul Dhalayat, who were aware that the power of attorney was forged. The complainant was cheated in this process.
