Land loot in Bardez: Mapusa Police book five including ex-mamlatdar

Based on the complaint by Anjuna resident, police said the accused dishonestly forged the documents in respect of property in Survey No 493/3 admeasuring 15,400 square metres and impersonated as legal heirs of the property

MAPUSA: Taking cognisance of Herald news highlighting the land loot in Badem, Assagao, Anjuna, Siolim and Parra, the Mapusa Police have booked five persons including a former Mamlatdar of Bardez taluka.

Based on the complaint filed by Esperanca Oliveira, a resident of Anjuna, the police have booked Branca Cassiana Diniz alias Branca Rodrigues, Paulina Diniz alias Palmira Gonsalves and Mariano Gonsalves, all residents of Cuncolim; Royson Rodrigues from Chaudi, Canacona and Rahul Desai, the then Mamlatdar of Bardez under Sections 465, 467, 468, 471, 419 and 420 read with 34 of the IPC.

The police said the accused dishonestly forged the documents in respect of property in Survey Number 493/3 of Anjuna village admeasuring 15,400 square metres and in respect of identity they impersonated as legal heirs of the property. The accused further, with their common intention, fraudulently produced the forged documents before the concerned authorities and succeeded in transferring the property rights by depriving the legal heirs from enjoying their legal rights thereby cheating them.

It may be recalled that Herald has highlighted this issue of land grabbing where groups of people had allegedly transferred and grabbed the land of Niz Goenkars from Badem, Assagao, Anjuna and Parra.

Herald in its edition dated May 28, 2022 had exposed the cases of land grabs, especially in the jurisdiction of Bardez taluka where land which is mostly owned by the Niz Goenkars is being transferred or sold old using fake documents by different groups of people.
