Land related laws to be tweaked in forthcoming Assembly session: CM

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that the land related laws will be tweaked in the forthcoming assembly session to prevent cases of land grabbing.

“Several amendments will be made to land related laws in the session to prohibit and penalise land grabbing, as per recommendations of one-person commission, headed by retired Justice V K Jadhav,” stated the CM.

He said all unclaimed ‘no man’s land’ which was grabbed by the fraudsters forging Portuguese-era documents, will be taken over by the government and around 110 land grabbing cases will be heard in a single court.

“Case of those who had applied are underway. Scrutiny of the cases is going on. Whatever will be done will be based on the suggestion of the commission,” he said.

The one-man commission submitted its report on land grabbing cases to the State government in last November.

The Chief Minister said the government will get the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) map in 1:4000 scale from the Chennai-based agency National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) within 3 weeks and will be made available at panchayats for verification.

After this, the CZMP 2011 will be notified, he said, adding it will pave the way for the state to finalise CZMP 2019 and urged the people to cooperate with the government.

The Chief Minister also said that the Porvorim 6 lane elevated flyover work will be completed within two years.

He said the concerns expressed by local MLA and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte have been addressed.

The Chief Minister also said that the State cabinet has approved increasing the stipend of MBBS students from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000, extend CM Fellowship program by three years and give one year extension to existing fellows.

He said the cabinet also approved to bring the Sewage Corporation under Finance Department from the Public Works Department.
