The election scheduled on Tuesday for the post of CMC Chairperson and vice-chairperson will be a mere formality as the presiding officer received just one nomination each of Landry and Premdeep Desai for the post of chairperson and vice-chairperson respectively.
Election for the post of chairperson was necessitated after then chairperson Devendra Desai was ousted in a no-trust motion tabled against him by six members of the 10-member group.
Sources within the Landry group, which owes allegiance to the Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik said the new council is expected to revive the commercial project which was kept on hold by the civic body during the tenure of Devendra Desai.
The new council to be headed by Landry is also expected to renew its request to the Director of Municipal Administration, Elvis Gomes, who hails from Cuncolim, to sanction air condition facility for the Municipal hall and allot the auctioned shops to the highest bidders.
