PERNEM: A landslide occurred along NH 66 in Dhargal, causing massive blocks of mud and large boulders to crash onto the highway. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported in the incident. However, the lane heading towards Pernem had to be closed, and traffic had to be diverted, leading to disruptions in the smooth flow of traffic.
This is not the first such incident at this location, as a similar landslide occurred during the rains in July last year. Locals have expressed frustration and accused the highway contractor of negligence. They claim that assurances were given to address the issue and prevent landslide incidents, but no substantial action has been taken so far. An inspection by the concerned officer took place after a similar incident last year, but residents say that nothing came of it.
The repeated landslides are raising concerns about the safety of people using the highway, as it witnesses constant vehicle movement day and night. The latest incident occurred on a Sunday morning.
