Landslide triggered by heavy rains put lives, houses of people living on Mapusa hill at risk

MAPUSA: Landslide triggered by heavy rains brought down boulders and mud from a hillock at Rajwado, Mapusa, putting the lives and houses of people living on the hill at risk.

Mud and stones rolled down the hill at around 12.30 pm and landed on the main road. An electricity pole was uprooted with the impact and the whole area plunged into darkness for over 12 hours. The road was also blocked for traffic but fortunately no casualties or injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, the houses located on the hill were on the edge and it is feared that they could collapse any time.

“The Municipal Inspector has been directed to write a letter to the Deputy Collector seeking his intervention and to personally inspect the site since the houses on the hill are in danger and may collapse anytime,” said Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Priya Mishal.
