Landslip leaves NH66 road spot on Karmal Ghat dangerous

CANACONA: A landslip on the lower side of NH66 on Karmal Ghat has washed away the soil supporting the shoulder of the road, if not stabilised immediately it could lead to accidents feel locals from here.
The landslip is caused due to too much of pressure the flowing water exerted on the unsupported side wall of the road here.
About 5 mt of the wall of earth upto the shoulders is washed exposing vehicles especially heavy vehicles to extreme risk of toppling down the slope.
Since the road from Belgaum to Goa via Anmod and Chorla Ghat was closed for heavy vehicles, the movement of vehicles has increased manifold on this route adding tremendous amounts of stress on the already vulnerable stretches on the Karmalghat section of the road.
The authorities have wrapped some orange coloured tape to warn the motorists of impending danger at the stretch but it makes no much difference as the landslip is at a blind curve.
Janu Velip a local resident speaking to this correspondent said that the slip had occurred a few weeks back and the authorities should make arrangements to rectify the road as early as possible.
“Authorities shouldn’t wait till a vehicle goes down the slope” Velip advised authoritatively.
Meanwhile, another multi-axle truck carrying heavy commercial goods slipped away from the shoulder of NH66 at Barcem on Saturday morning.
The owners of the truck till Saturday evening was trying to transfer the pay load into another truck exposing other motorists to risk on already narrow road there.
The Highway Patrol however was conspicuously not seen at the accident site.
