Large quantities of seized drugs will soon be destroyed: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant

With three drug peddlers nabbed by the Anti Narcotic Cell, Goa Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday clarified that Goa is not a place to do drugs, but it is a place for good tourists. Night Clubs and other spots where late-night parties take place are also under the radar of State Police & if anyone is found consuming drugs at a venue, a case will be filed against them, said CM Sawant.

The Anti Narcotic Cell is coordinating well with other departments to curb the drug menace in the state, CM Sawant claimed. Within the last three years, the Anti Narcotic Cell has seized large quantities of drugs, which will soon be destroyed publicly.

In response to a question regarding an increase in crimes in the State, CM Sawant said from the year 2019 to date, the crime rate is low while the crime detection rate is high. He also added that during the last two years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people had migrated outside the state, and are now returning because of the increase in economic activity in the state, and many outsiders were involved in crimes taking place within the state.

Talking about the cases of rape, he said that 95 % of these cases involve the accused who is known to the victim or the minors. He also added that Lady Police Constables are assigned the task of meeting the adolescent population in their area and educating them on how to safeguard themselves from this crime.

When asked about the Sonali Phogat Murder Case, CM Sawant said, “I do not want to comment on the investigation. The police are doing their job, and we will get it to the end. Presently Curlies is sealed.”
