PONDA: A large quantity of fish was found floating dead in the main nullah at Ponda on Sunday.
Locals passing from service road by the side of National Highway at Nagzar Curti noticed the dead fish floating in the nullah.
There are large number of commercial units and several industrial units on the banks of the nulla at Bethora. Locals suspect that the chemical waste released into the nullah may be the reason behind the death of fish.
Locals demand that Bethora Panchayat and Ponda Municipality take action in the incidence as the nullah flows from Bethora Panchayat to Ponda municipal jurisdiction.
Further, the water is used for agriculture in Kavlem and Bandora. Hence, the locals have demand that authorities concerned and the Goa State Pollution Control Board inspect the factories located on banks of the nullah to check whether they are releasing chemical waste into the nullah.
