BICHOLIM: Residents of Latambarcem in Bicholim taluka have voiced their concerns over illegal hill cutting and plotting activities in the No Development Zone (NDZ) in the village.
Siddesh Tari, a local resident, has filed a complaint highlighting illegal plotting, levelling and hill cutting in Survey No. 296/2, threatening the area’s natural cover. The complainant also noted that the hill cutting near the canal of the Tillari irrigation project could potentially damage it.
Tari has called on the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister Vishwajit Rane and the authorities concerned to inspect the site and take strict action against those responsible.
Another villager Raghunath Malik from Ladfem, Bicholim in his complaint to the Bicholim Deputy Town Planner, has stated that illegal activities like hill cutting and plotting were carried out in an area admeasuring 1.30 lakh square metres, mostly natural forest cover and NDZ.
Further, the hill cutting was going on in close proximity of the Tillari irrigation canal, which could pose danger to the canal, he said, demanding that the TCP Minister should take immediate action against those responsible and stop the rampant hill cutting.
