PANJIM: Fire and Emergency Services (FES) Director Ashok Menon on Wednesday said that the latest technological advancements in equipments used for firefighting will be displayed at the State function on the occasion of the National Fire Service Day on April 14. The director also said that a mobile educational van will be inaugurated at the same function.
“There will also be a display of robotic fire fighting equipments along with other rescue equipments,” Menon said speaking to reporters. He clarified that the equipments have not been procured by them and will only be on display.
Menon said that the National Fire Service Day is to pay homage to fireman martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the course of duty and this will be followed by the Fire Prevention Week from April 14 to 20.
Menon said, “This year’s theme is ‘Fire loss is national loss – let us adopt fire safety measures’. The directorate proposes to continue the SAFE programme on various aspects of fire and other safety aspects during April. We intend to further intensify and extend the industry specific and other safety awareness through media of FM, local channels.”
He added, “As a part of this awareness campaign a poster competition on how fire accidents can be prevented is being organised for primary and middle school children on April 8. As a prelude to the national fire service day, the directorate is launching a series of activities to enhance the level of awareness among citizens with stress on school children.”
The department is also organising the 2nd edition of Goa Fire Run – 2018 on April 15 in association with Vasco Sports Club and Fire Protection Association of India (FPAI) to pay homage to fireman martyrs and to promote the message of fire safety.
