PANJIM: Aam Aadmi Party’s Capt Venzy Viegas appealed to the people of Benaulim constituency to launch a movement over the irregular water supply issue and ensure that the constituency’s water woes are solved.

The residents of Ambeaxir in Sernabatim of the constituency gathered in large numbers to protest against the irregular water supply they have been facing for nearly a year. The residents complained of extreme low pressure and claimed that it takes hours to fill even a bucket.
The residents of around 30 houses gathered under the banner ‘Udkachi Sutka’ at a meeting convened by the villagers where Capt Viegas was invited. The people expressed their anguish and trouble in getting water. The villagers lamented that while the hotels in the neighbouring areas get all the water they require, domestic consumers do not get water and at time have to stay awake the whole night to fill water. They accused the local MLA Churchill Alemao of not even visiting their area despite being apprised about the problem.
They condemned the MLA for his statement that Benaulim constituency has no water problem and that residents of Verodem and Vodlem Bhat are lying with regards to irregular water supply issue.
The villagers thanked AAP for taking up the issue.
“We are paying and not receiving water,” complained a villager.
The locals demanded that the government compensate them for the lack of service and refund at least 50 per cent of the fees they have paid for water charges in the last one year.
The villagers later handed over a memorandum to the PWD officials who admitted that due to technical problems the locals are not receiving proper supply. However, they failed to answer as to why the technical problem has not been solved for almost a year.
