CUNCOLIM: Former chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas has raised strong objection to the Cuncolim Municipal Council’s decision to purchase a new car for the chairperson.
Mascarenhas told media persons that despite struggling to pay salaries of the municipal employees, the Council has decided to purchase a new car.
“We will not tolerate this nonsense and I am going to complain to the (Director or Municipal Administration) DMA asking him not to grant permission for the new car.”
“What is the hurry in buying a new car by spending Rs 9 lakh when there is already a car in running condition?” Mascarenhas questioned and said, “We objected to this decision in the Council meeting.”
, but since a majority of councillors are in favour of that, they are spending public money for personal luxuries,” she said.
“I will present the exact financial position of the council before the DMA and will ask to revoke the permission, if any, given for the new car,” she said.
“In last two months the chairperson has not done any developmental work, but she renovated her cabin and now she going to buy a luxury car. I will also take this issue before the public,” she added.
