PONDA: Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar, who never misses an opportunity to criticize the BJP, has been advised by BJP State chief Vinay Tendulkar to stop spreading baseless allegations and misinformation against the BJP and its leaders in Ponda.
Addressing the media at his residence in Khadpabandh, Ponda, on Wednesday, Tendulkar advised Mamledar to keep in mind the future of the BJP-MGP alliance for the forthcoming election as well as the BJP’s strong ties with MGP leader and PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar.
He appealed to Mamledar to respect the MGP-BJP alliance by refraining from making statements against BJP workers in Ponda and creating an atmosphere of tension.
Pointing out contradictions in the allegations of Mamledar, Tendulkar said, on the one hand Mamledar is alleging that no development has taken place and that works were progressing slowly, but on the other hand, he is claiming that development works worth Rs 750 crore has been done in his constituency.
Tendulkar further said that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has been sanctioning funds for developmental works in Ponda from time to time, and that the BJP has not stopped any work by refusing to grant funds.
“In Ponda, there are around 8,500 BJP workers who are highlighting the party’s schemes and achievements, and there is also a special group of 500 party workers. The BJP’s Special Block Committee is functioning, while the BJP Working Committee holds activities related to public welfare and it receives very good response from the people. I am very happy with the work of the party workers in Ponda. On the other hand, there is no MGP Working Committee in Ponda. Lavoo might be feeling threatened by the performance of the BJP workers in Ponda,” said Tendulkar.
Stating that the MGP-BJP alliance should be a lasting one, Tendulkar advised Mamledar not to make statements that would make the people believe that the alliance between the two parties is over.
“He should neither level false allegations against local BJP leaders nor should he hurt BJP workers by his frequent statements against them, which will create tension,” Tendulkar said.
He continued, “There will be a meeting of BJP and MGP workers three months before the forthcoming election to decide the strategies and allotment of Assembly seats. As per the alliance terms, if Ponda constituency is allotted to the MGP, then the BJP workers will campaign for the MGP candidate. The BJP will definitely follow the terms of the alliance.”
Tendulkar also stated that Mamledar was not speaking anything against the BJP during the Assembly session, “but once he is out of the House, he speaks too much and makes baseless allegations against the party.” It’s time that he stops his inflammatory speeches, he added.
He also clarified that no local BJP leader was involved in dividing the Ponda market vendors, as alleged by Mamledar.
He also said that the present MoI policy would not be changed and the government was firm on its decision to not allow new English medium schools in the State.
