PORVORIM: Youth Congress on Friday demanded to fast track investigation into the Vilas Mhetar murder that occurred at Torda, Porvorim, on Wednesday.
After protesting outside the building of Porvorim Police Station, a five-member delegation met Deputy Superintendent of Police Edwin Colaso and Porvorim Police Inspector Ninad Deulkar, at the DySp chamber, who were informed investigation in the case, is going on.
The Youth Congress workers then sat at the entrance of the station and held a silent protest.
Later, addressing the media persons, Youth Congress held Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Home Ministry and Goa Police responsible for the rising crimes in the State.
“It doesn’t look that the investigation in the case of Vilas Mhetar who was set ablaze is going in the right direction. A person was set ablaze alive and killed at an isolated place which shows that law and order in the State is completely collapsed. On September 25, one-and-half month baby was found dead; daylight Walke murder at Margao, a child was given chemical and recently another daylight murder at Mapusa. So many crime incidents but the police have no clue in any of these cases,” Youth Congress President Varad Mardolkar alleged.
“Goa is a tourist destination. Tourism in Goa is already gone down and if such horrific crime incidents keep on happening then how tourism will flourish in the State. Such incidents have never occurred in history of Goa. The Chief Minister who also holds the Home Ministry is not paying any attention towards the law and order of the State. When media questioned the Chief Minister about the death of one-and-half month infant, he was answerless. Selling Mhadei River water, coal hub, double-tracking and Mollem deforestation are the priorities of this Chief Minister,” said Mardolkar.
“DySp and PI have informed us that investigation is going on but don’t know when the culprit will be nabbed. If this continues then common man will be scared to move out of their homes. If the Chief Minister is not serious about these rising crimes then he should resign and sit at home,” Mardolkar claimed.
Stating that crime rate in Goa is on rise, Janardan Bhandari said,” Crime rate in Goa is rising like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. If this government who has come into power from the back door cannot handle their ministries that they are given then they should resign from their posts and hand over it to a right person. The Chief Minister who also holds the Home Ministry does not know his own priorities. Security and health are the priorities of people and if this government cannot give people these two then what will people do. In present situation there is no guarantee that the person who leaves house will return back home safely,” Bhandari claimed.
“Government means trust and security but people are not getting it from this government. If people move out or express themselves then they are pressurised. If people file RTI or protest they are arrested. This Porvorim incident shows that there is no law and order in Goa. ‘Bhivpachi Garaz Na’ is for the robbers, thieves, rapists and murderers who don’t have to be scared and this is because Goa Police and Chief Minister, who does not know their own duties. The Chief Minister is not serious about his duties because of which police take him for granted,” General Secretary Amarnath Panjikar said.
