Law students sharpen minds and tongues for Moot Court Competition

The finals of the Moot Court Competition were presided over by a bench composed of Justice Sonak and Justice Valmiki Menezes, both judges of the Bombay High Court.

MARGAO: Bombay High Court Judge, Justice Mahesh Sonak, said that the legitimate purpose of education is not to fill an empty mind with lots of facts, figures and information. “It is to replace an empty mind with an open mind,” said Justice Sonak, while delivering the valedictory address at the first Dr Carmo D’ Souza Memorial Goa State Level Moot Court Competition, organised by the Alumni Association of the G.R. Kare College of Law at the college campus at Margao. “The mind is like a parachute. It works best when it is open,” added Justice Sonak.

Dr Marian Pinheiro, Adv Sanjit Dessai, Principal Dr Saba Da Silva and Adv Ann Furtado also presided over the competition.

The purpose of the competition is to create awareness about local laws and socio-political issues, and a team of legal experts have drafted the disputes, hoping to make the young students conduct research on such legislations. The competition is open to all students from both the law colleges in Goa.

The finals of the Moot Court Competition were presided over by a bench composed of Justice Sonak and Justice Valmiki Menezes, both judges of the Bombay High Court. After the conclusion of the final round, Justice Valmiki Menezes interacted with the law students and guided them on enhancing their advocacy skills. Justice Sonak said that a college education can help you to think for yourselves, to be innovative and creative. “Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep,” he remarked.
