Lawyer arrested for assault on Chinchinim family

Victims demand that the advocate be stripped off his licence

MARGAO: Cuncolim police on Thursday arrested Adv Cipriano Cota from Panchawadi for allegedly assaulting Felix Fernandes and his family in Chinchinim.
The police have recovered weapons allegedly used in the assault from the accused.
It is learnt that the fight is a fall out of a property dispute between the two families.
Earlier, the police had trouble in initiating action into the matter after Fernandes family members refused to lodge a complaint. After the assault, Adv Cipriano and his father Joao Philip Cota filed a police complaint alleging assault and trespass by Felix Fernandes and his family.
In their complaint, they further alleged that the Felix and his family have illegally occupied the house inherited by Adv Cipriano’s family.
After undergoing treatment, Felix and his family then filed a counter complaint accusing Cipriano of assaulting them. Cuncolim police registered a case against Adv Cipriano for unlawful assembly, assault with weapons causing grievous injuries, molestation and offences under Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act.
South Goa SP Arvind Gawas on Thursday held a meeting with the Felix and his family along with the NGO Savera and informed that further investigation in the case is currently on.
Meanwhile, Felix and his family have demanded that lawyer be stripped off his licence for assaulting them.
The demand comes after a shocking incident of women, young child and men being allegedly assaulted by the accused went viral on social media on Wednesday.
