MARGAO: Local citizens and practicing young lawyer Seoula Vas undertook pothole filling at Fatorda with her personal funds in the middle of a weekday on Wednesday, irked by authority’s lasciviousness towards accomplishing the same. The chosen spots were the most accident prone for the motorists.
Speaking to the media, Seoula Vas said that she had eye-witnessed at least two bikers falling and getting hurt.
“Goa frequently suffers from road contract failures that go unpunished by lax authorizes. Very recently all over Fatorda people witnessed road collapses at various spots exposing the very same lax administration and poor quality of public works that at the very minimum are meant for safety and convenience. While these collapsed roads were mended with substandard methods, other major roads also have invited many vehicular accidents,” said Vas.
She further said that the Ambajim-Chandrawaddo road which runs parallel to the National Highway had inescapable deep potholes for months of workout care shown by the Municipality or PWD. Such shoddy work generates lots of suspicion from civil society about whether the contracts are at all tendered in the interest of the public or there is fraudulent expenditure.
“After seeing that the spots were evidently dangerous I resolved to do the job without even complaining to the authorities as I know they are pointless. A month ago we hand-filled one of these holes without help. But this time I decided to bring material and labour on the job,”said Vas.
