Lawyers prohibited from publishing ads

PANJIM: The Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa has prohibited its advocates from releasing/publishing advertisements failing which it has warned of strict action for misconduct. A notice issued on Saturday has also barred the advocates from advertising on WhatsApp.
“As per Rule 36 Section IV Part-VI of Chapter II of the Bar Council of India Rules with regard to Standards of Professional Conduct and Etiquettes Rules framed under Section 49 of Advocates Act, 1961, Advertisement by an Advocate is strictly prohibited. Similar subject has been considered by the Punjab & Haryana Bar Council with various attachments of paper publication etc and have reproduced the same rules that an Advocate should not make any kind of Advertisement,” the notice issued by the Council’s Secretary states.
“The said subject was again considered by General Council in its Meeting held on September 15, 2019 and have resolved that in the event of notice of such type of Advertisement made by Advocates, immediate action shall be taken by the State Bar Council regarding misconduct. Thus all Advocates in the State of Maharashtra & Goa are hereby prohibited from making any kind of advertisement in this regard,” it further states.
