Laying of gas pipelines in Ponda completed

Sewerage pipeline work will be ready in Feb: MLA

PONDA: The work of laying pipeline for natural gas at Ponda is nearing completion and the laying of sewerage pipelines would be completed in February, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik has said.
Ravi was speaking after holding a meeting of officials of various departments to take the stock of development works progressing in the city.
Observing that developmental works are needlessly getting delayed, he suggested formation of a coordination committee comprising PMC officials and officials of various Government departments concerned, to clear the obstacles to developments.
“Currently, all the roads in Ponda have been dug up for laying sewerage lines; and the officials and the public should cooperate for the early completion of the project,” Ravi said.
The official of Goa Natural Gas (Private) Ltd, the agency laying pipeline for supplying natural gas to consumers in Ponda, said that pipelines have been laid in city for 25 km using polyethylene gas piping system. “And 1500 connections have already been provided to flats/ households but there are lots of other works need to be completed before releasing gas,” an official said.
He said that gas would be supplied from the main District Regulation Station at Marcaim from where the pipeline will reach Ponda via Kundaim. “However, the piped gas to households in Ponda would be delayed because we haven’t yet got clearance from PWD to dig the road by the side of NH,” he said.
He further said there is also need of around 200 square metres of land, to set up District Regulation Station at Ponda, which will convert high pressure gas to low pressure to supply it to homes or flats in Ponda.
