PORVORIM: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat questioned the government on the revenue source for the budget presented by the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for the year 2019-20.
Speaking during the discussion on the budget, Kamat pointed out that in order to realise the surplus as stated in the budget of Rs 450 crore, the govt will have to generate Rs 3000 crore during the financial year.
He said, “The Chief Minister has not taken much effort as everything presented is the same as was tabled in January this year. How will you see smiles on the faces of the people when there are delays in disbursement of scheme money?”
Attacking the govt on the financial deficit, he said that the State will be under the burden of Rs 20,000 croresby March 2020 leading up to a loan of Rs 1.33 lakh on every Goan. “You have shown the revenue growth at 6 per cent but your borrowings are at 20 per cent”, he stated.
Pointing out at the infrastructure budget provision for the PWD Department, he said that the dept has been provided with Rs 1,188 crore while the existing liabilities of the department are at Rs 1450 crore.
Other legislators such as Rohan Khaunte, Prasad Gaonkar and Reginaldo Lourenco also shared their views on the budget.
