Leaders demand probe on TMC hoarding vandalism

PANJIM: The Goa Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday strongly condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their vitriolic campaign just ahead of West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Goa. The Goa TMC has lodged an official complaint and urged the police to initiate a probe and punish those behind this vengeful act.

At a joint pess conference, Goa TMC leadership including former MLA Lavoo Mamledar, Pratibha Borkar, Priya Rathod and Jayesh Shetgaonkar hit out at the ruling BJP-led government for vitiating the political atmosphere in Goa and asserted that the enormous hate exhibited by the BJP is not reflective of the culture of Goa.

Referring to the way TMC hoardings and billboards across the State had been vandalised, Shetgaonkar said, ‘It is proof of the deteriorating law and order in Goa. Goa is known for its culture. What has happened is clearly not Goan culture.”

Borkar said that women have always been respected in the State irrespective to their background. But this insult meted out to the only sitting female Chief Minister in the country is unbecoming of a true Goan.

Raising his pitch to ask some pertinent questions,   Mamledar asked, ‘Why hasn’t the BJP responded to Goa TMC’s nine-point people’s chargesheet yet? Why aren’t they giving any answers on unemployment, poor healthcare and infrastructure? Clearly, they are rattled because Goa TMC is a formidable force. This is nothing but their classic diversionary tactic ahead of Mamta Didi’s visit.’

Rathod remarked that this vitriolic campaign by BJP is actually TMC’s first victory ahead of the elections. The BJP foresees a clear defeat in the days to come which is why the party is stooping to such low levels.’
