On Monday, residents of Sasmolem area confronted PWD assistant engineer over the continuous rupture of sewerage pipeline in the residential area.  In their complaint they pointed out that this takes place every fortnight.
“It has become unbearable for us to even pass through road as the sewage overflows on the road. There is a bakery, houses nearby, so what we are suppose to do when there is such a situation in every eight days,” said Jayat Jadhav, a resident of Sasmolem area,
He further said that they have sent letters to the PWD sewerage section several times, but till date there has been no proper solution and that they want a permanent solution to this issue.  “We are fed-up of the sewerage pipeline issue. As a citizen least we should get basic civic amenities in proper way” he added.
What has raised concern in the area is the spread of dengue during the last monsoon season and they attribute the overflowing sewage as the issue. Sharifan Sheikh, whose two daughters were admitted to GMC, had complained that the area is unhygienic and not safe for children.
Later, PWD engineer from sewerage section inspected the site, spoke to the locals and heard their grievances and assured them a quick fix to this issue.
Similar troubles in Vasco
Meanwhile, the situation in Vasco town is no different.  The PWD has completed the desilting of the manholes as part of the pre-monsoon works but has left the sewage waste, excreta, sand and other dirt in the open just near the BSNL office in Vasco. At several places in Vasco , manholes have been cleared and the residue has been left open for commuters to  bear the ugly sight and  horrible stench.
PWD Assistant engineer Thomas Landes, pointed out that recently desilting work of the sewerage line was done as part of the pre monsoon works.  “Usually we do keep such sand from sewerage line outside and we dispose it. If there is residue dirt kept in the open then within two days our department labourers will clean it, “the PWD engineer added.
