PANJIM: Nearly 1.13 lakh cubic metres tonnes of legacy waste dump spread out across five sites would be taken up for remediation.
The Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) has floated tender inviting bids for the remediation of waste from five dump sites at a cost of over Rs 26.56 crore in phase II of the legacy dump clearing project.
The project shall be applicable across five Municipal and Panchayat Solid Waste (MSW) dumpsites. The minimum quantity for remediation of the garbage dump shall be approximately about 1.13 lakh cubic meters spread out at various locations including Taleigao Panchayat, Mapusa Municipal Council, Pernem Municipal Council, Curchorem-Carora Municipal Council and Mormugao Municipal Council.
The RDF (refused derived fuel) recovered during remediation shall be sent to the cement industries, waste to energy plants and thermal power plants for its co-incineration.
In the ongoing phase I, the GWMC has managed to handle the uphill task of clearing the legacy waste of over 2 lakh cubic metric tonnes out of identified 4.7 lakh cubic metric tonnes.
GWMC has remediated and cleared all the three legacy dumps identified in Panjim-Campal Parade ground, Behind SBI-Patto and near Divja Circle. The Corporation has also managed to dispose off the RDF generated through remediation process.
The dump accumulated with legacy waste at Headland Sada in Mormugao, is also been remediated fully.
The remediation work of Sonsoddo legacy waste and Assagao-Mapusa is currently in process.
