PANJIM: The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa has initiated a Continuous Legal Education Programme (CLEP) for young advocates.
This programme is undertaken for practical training in courts of law and for case management for advocates who have entered the legal profession and have practiced for upto 7 years.
The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa is organizing a two-day CLEP Programme at Goa on July 13 and 14 at building number 2, High Court Complex, Altinho, Panjim. Eminent legal personalities will be the faculty members for the programme. The theme of the programme is ‘Developing Skill of Advocacy’.
The chairman, Adv Pramod P Patil, vice-chairman, Adv Vipin L Bendale and member BCI Adv Satish A Deshmukh are the office bearers of the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa and the co-ordinator of this CLEP programme is Atmaram N S Nadkarni, Senior Advocate and Advocate General of Goa and also ex-officio Member of the Bar Council.
Young advocates will be trained for application of a legal mind to facts of a case, initiation of legal proceedings in courts of law, conduct of cases, necessary averments in pleadings, recording of evidence, expert evidence, assessment of evidence and judgments.
The programme is divided into two parts ~ viz. Civil Law and the Criminal Proceedings. In the Civil Law Proceeding, the subject of sending legal notices, drafting plaints and written statements, preliminaries after filing of a suit, recording and appreciation of evidence, amendment of various acts and effect thereof will be undertaken. The Criminal Law part will consist of subjects of registration of FIR, investigation, bail, framing of charge, conduct of trial by prosecution, defence, expert evidence like medical evidence, post-mortem report, examination of experts and appreciation of evidence in a criminal trial.
In both parts, advocates, judicial officers and academicians will be faculty members and participants from Goa are being selected for the programme.
The programme will be held every three months in six Revenue Divisions of Maharashtra and two Revenue Divisions of Goa.
