Legal Met books 282 cases in six months

PANJIM: The Legal Metrology Department booked 282 cases under the Enforcement Act and under the Packaged Commodities Rules in the last six months since April.

PANJIM: The Legal Metrology Department booked 282 cases under the Enforcement Act and under the Packaged Commodities Rules in the last six months since April. 
As per information, from April 1 to September 30, it carried out 3799 inspections, 672 surprise visits and booked 282 cases. 
“Out of 282 cases, 212 cases have been booked under the Enforcement Act and 70 cases under the Packaged Commodities Rules,” the department said. 
Of the booked cases, 237 were compounded thereby collecting a sum of Rs 11,09,000 and verification fees of Rs 87,67,309 and other fees of Rs 6002.
There were 11 mandatory declarations on packages, 23 overcharge smudging of MRP, 11 net content and 13 cases on industry and sweet mart, etc.
The enforcement team conducts regular checks, surprise visits, raids on retail shops to make sure packaged commodities sold bear all declarations as per the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, and also the weights, measures, weighing instrument and measuring instrument used are stamped and verified from time to time.
The Department said that it will continue to conduct raids and surprise visits and that strict action will be taken against the defaulters.
